Joyce, Jonathan and I met up yesterday at the beautiful California State Capitol building, downtown Sacramento for their on-location after wedding photography session. I didn’t shoot their wedding, but there’s no reason they can’t get the same fun, romantic bride-and-groom images they would have gotten if I had shot their wedding! We just did it after their wedding.

The entire session took place within a few blocks of the Capitol. The next few images were taken across the street from the Capitol.
The colors at this location made me think energy!

Now we are back on the State Capitol grounds.

We loved the marble checkerboard porch at the entrances to the Capitol building.

This is behind the Capitol building. The setting and the foggy afternoon seemed to fit a black-and-white image that could have been taken years ago.
Pink was one of their colors. I had to get a shot of Joyce’s pink shoes!
Meet Emily and James!
Location shoots in Davis don’t get rained out often, but it was pouring when Emily and James’ engagement session was first planned to happen in December. So we picked the next available date for all of us and it worked out perfectly!

It seems like no UC Davis engagement session would be complete without something taken at the Death Star. We should all thank the UC Regents for providing such an awesome location!
But even the most awesome location isn’t complete without an awesome couple like James and Emily!

We were walking across the quad and noticed this sort of surreal atmosphere created apparently by moisture left over from the rain and recent Tule fog episode in Davis. It just seemed like the fantastic cork oaks lining the quad would be a perfect spot to get a shot of Emily and James strolling.

Meet Matthew and Tianna!

This next shot was taken at one of Tianna and Matthew’s favorite restaurants. It was closed and all the outdoor tables were locked up, but we really liked the colors of the facade and wanted to get a shot that showed off the entryway.
These next few images were taken at the UC Davis Death Star building.

I’ve shot at this outdoor hallway before, but never with just this concept. Somehow, Tianna and Matthew just seemed perfect to take a stroll along this wallkway in the Death Star building.
Now we are back above ground. Tianna and Matthew.

We finished off at the Arboretum just in time. Right after this shot it started to rain! That’s okay, we got lots of great images and had a tons of fun!!
