It was raining cats and dogs on Easter Day in Sacramento! That’s the day Tyreina and Fred had scheduled for their bride and groom after-wedding photo session – but we wisely moved it out a week – and we ended up with perfect weather!
Tyreina and Fred wanted an urban feel to their photos, so I picked an area with lots of shops and lofts near L Street and 18th as a starting point. These next eleven images were all taken in about a three block area. There is so much going on in a city and so many different backgrounds for a shoot!
The image on the left with the old-world feel was taken at the St. John’s Lutheran Chuch and the image on the right with the vibrant colors was taken on the same block.
Meet Tyreina and Fred!

We had to get a photo in front of this colorful mural!

Tyreina and Fred are a lot of fun!!

The rest of these photos were taken downtown Sacramento about a mile from our original spot.
I love their connection! And, Tyreina’s wedding dress is gorgeous!

Meet Gina and Jeremy! Here are highlights from Gina and Jeremy’s photo shoot in Davis.
Before we get to the images I want to say something about shooting in a familiar location. I shoot a lot in Davis. If you’re not familiar with the area, it’s a small university town in California. It’s small enough that if you shoot here a lot you visit the same places often. That’s true and I love shooting in Davis and I always get different images on every shoot. How? Because I approach every image I take with every couple with an eye to their own unique personalities, and what’s going on right then between that couple in that location and in that light. This first image illustrates that – it was taken in a place I’ve shot tons of times before, and it’s just as unique as if I’d never seen the location.
This first photo struck me as a found moment that could have been witnessed last week or fifty years ago as a couple exchanged a glance. It could have been taken in the US, in Italy, in Germany, France, England, Hong Kong, India, Taiwan – it could have been taken anywhere at any time – it’s a story about a couple exchanging a moment, and couples exchange moments all over the world and they have been doing so throughout time. I finished the image as black and white because I just kept thinking this is a modern couple but if they had been transported back in time their exchange would be just as genuine and just as much in the moment. I wanted to give a hint of that in the image.
I normally don’t start off a story with a black and white image, but here it just seemed like a great introduction to them. Gina and Jeremy in the UC Davis Death Star.

The light was gorgeous and for most of the rest of these images it made sense to showcase Gina and Jeremy in the natural colors of that gorgeous light.

I hope you enjoy more of Gina and Jeremy’s story as caught in these images!
